What's the reason for this information? Because people need to learn about email hoaxes and virus hoaxes! What prompted me to do this? I wish people would just learn to search and identify this junk before sending out these emails and causing harm to others. There's a couple of email hoaxes that are still causing a lot of problems.

Email Hoax #1. If you get an email that tells you to search your computer for SULFNBK.EXE and if you find it you have a virus and you should delete the file right away!  DON'T DO IT!  You are going to find this file, it's a part of windows, not a virus! This is an email hoax. Ignore the email! Delete the email! Don't forward the email!

Email Hoax #2. You receive an email telling you to search for the file JDBGMGR.EXE. If you find it and it has a teddy bear next to it, your computer has a virus. NOT!!!  DON'T DO IT!  Again, you are going to find this file, it's a part of windows, not a virus! Ignore the email! Delete the email! Don't forward the email!

NOTE:  Don't panic if you did delete these files, you didn't ruin your computer. Do searches for them and you'll find the info explaining what they are. (I could tell you here but you need to learn to search yourself!)

E-AUDIT SCAM This email claims to be an "e-audit" from the IRS (referencing IRS form 1040) and indicates that the taxpayer is being audited and must complete a questionnaire in 48 hours in order to avoid penalties. The questionnaire asks for detailed personal information as well as bank account and social security numbers.
This is a SCAM ..... the IRS DOES NOT CONTACT people by email

Virus Alert! If you don't have an anti-virus program installed on your computer, you deserve to get a virus! With the growing number of email viruses attacking computers today, everyone should have a good virus program on their computer. They are not expensive and are easy to install. BUT virus programs are only as good as the current dat file. A dat file is the virus definition file from the software maker. You should update your virus dat files weekly. In most cases, run your anti-virus program, click on update (you need to be connected to the internet) and your program will update the dat files automatically. Get off your booty, go to the store and get a good one. McAffee or Norton are both good programs. You don't have to go to a software store, most of the general merchandise stores carry them as well as some of the book/music stores. Here's one you can download for FREE AVG 6.0 Free Edition that comes higly recommended.

REMEMBER THIS! Your anti-virus is only as good as the dat files and they don't upgrade themselves. Don't forget to update the program every week.

Good Advice!
1. Don't open attached files. keep all your Microsoft software up-to-date by visiting Microsoft's Windows Update site or by checking Microsoft TechNet for the latest security updates.
2. Get a firewall. ZoneAlarm offers a good free firewall. (Scroll down toward the bottom of the page to download the free firewall.)
3. Sign up to get email "Virus Alerts" from either McAfee-AVERT (Go to this page, scroll down and click on the "Subscribe to AVERT Virus News") or Symantec-Norton. Get your information from a reputable source, not some email that says, "I got this from my friend ... yada yada yada."
4. DON'T BELEIVE EVERYTHING YOU READ IN AN EMAIL! Here's a list of Email Hoaxes. Check them out! This is from Symantec, makers of Norton Anti-virus so it's a site you can trust for good information.

If you don't have anti-virus software installed on your computer, go to HouseCall. This is an online virus checker provided by Trend Micro Systems.

Junk Email aka Spam: Don't you hate getting junk mail everyday, hundreds of credit card apps and other garbage? Be prepared for junk email too, (if you aren't getting it already). Some sites collect the info from your computer but a major cause is careless people who forward email and don't use Bcc. Learn Email Etiquette! If your getting a lot of spam, check with your ISP to see if they have spam filters that you can sign up for or learn to set up your own through your browser.

Always verify something before you forward it on to your friends and family. Save yourself from the embarrassment of having to send out that apology email with instructions on how to fix the problem you gave everyone. And speaking of forwarding email, take a minute to look at some email etiquette, make sure your not classified as an email idiot.
