Q. Do I have to use African Violet Soil for my violets?

A. No, but your plants will not do very well. African Violets thrive in a slightly acidic soil not found in regular potting soils. Also, most potting soils are too heavy for African Violets. They need a light "loose" soil mix to allow their tiny roots to spread.
Use the recommended potting mix of 1 part perlite, 1 part course vermiculite and one part regular unfertilized African violet potting soil or pick up a bag of Lakes Area Violet Growers potting mix at our Spring show or Fall Display and Sale.
